Second Childhood

"He’s obviously well into his second childhood", was my youngest sister, Juliette’s comment when I sent her a photo of my husband, David, sprawled in the snow having fallen off his sledge! We don’t get much snow in our part of North Wales so big kids like us take advantage of it when we do! Our two-year-old grandson, Elliot, has not experienced snow before and was beside himself with excitement when sledging, snowballing and making his first snowman.

Actually my sister’s remark was a case of the pot calling the kettle black; she adores snow and Juliette and her husband take their holidays in places where they are likely to find it. They live in Guernsey so a covering of snow is quite rare! I was complaining that we had run out of milk and as we couldn’t get the car out of the drive, David would have to walk the 1.5 miles to our local village shop to get some. Green with jealously, Juliette said, "Who cares about milk, we would be cracking open the champagne if we had that much snow!" My sister is not noted for being a fan of small children, but I think she would have happily entertained Elliot, if that was the price she would have to pay for a garden full of snow in which to amuse herself!

One can have too much of the white stuff though, so I am happy that the thaw has now set in, and normal service is resumed!
