New Arrival

On Friday February 17th at 4.18pm our very welcome fourth grandson, Toby David, entered the world weighing in at 7lbs 9ozs. He is of course totally gorgeous, has a healthy pair of lungs and had no trouble finding and making good use of the milk bar!

His poor Mum had a rough time as the epidural didn’t work and she had to rely on the old-fashioned gas and air! Adrienne also has a kidney infection, fortunately the antibiotic doesn’t affect her ability to feed the little man. Our son-in-law, Julian, has drawn a line in the sand declaring that he can’t possibly go through labour again as it is too traumatic! For the sake of the human race most women have the ability to forget the pain of labour as soon as the little one is placed in their arms, otherwise no family would have more than one child!

Big brother, Elliot (2), is very proud of his baby brother, but can’t believe how, to use his expression, "teeny tiny", Toby is. Although we tried to prepare him for the big event, he has not been acquainted with any very small babies recently, and probably expected Toby to be the size of his 18-month-old cousin, Torin! Elliot thinks that having a baby brother is wonderful because people have been very good at including him in the present giving; as far as he is concerned his mummy can carry on producing babies! Elliot is very protective of Toby and I suspect his cousins will encounter the ‘Toby Protection Squad’ if they have the temerity to approach the baby when they visit the new arrival later on today!

Our grandchildren are a joy and blessing to us, we can be rather more relaxed than we were as parents, and of course we can hand the little darlings back at the end of the day!
