Domestic Discipline
I came across the euphemistic phrase, ‘Domestic Discipline’, on an American Christian forum. I was angry that a practice that should have died out with the dinosaurs is still entrenched in the philosophy of some extreme fundamentalist Christians.
I believe strongly in spanking and even in spanking a wife when needed. I assure you it is only for discipline and there is no sexual side to it. I believe that there would be much less domestic violence and divorce in the man took the lead in the home and when the wife was out of line, giving a good spanking rather that a punch, kick or even having a big fight. I believe that a spanking should be hard enough to make her cry and if she is showing a rebellious spirit in regard to the spanking it ought to be hard enough to take that out of her. Even in regard to children the Bible says not to spare for their crying. I expect more from my wife than my children so I would discipline her accordingly. Although, after 13 years of marriage she probably only gets spanked about once every year and a half.
As you can imagine I choked when I read this quote from the forum! I can only wonder at the mentality of a man who can treat his wife in that fashion. ‘Because is it in the Bible’ is an excuse often used to defend the indefensible, Biblical verses are taken out of context and more often than not used to support a stance that was in all probability not the intention of the author!
It is sad to think that although many women living in the West have achieved equality, there are some who are still treated as chattels and expected to be submissive to their husbands! Marriage should be a partnership of equals, based on love and respect, and no way should the husband EVER subject his wife to the abuse and humiliation described in the quote!
