Awards
The season of film and TV award ceremonies is once more upon us. I can’t be alone in finding the artificial quality of these shows rather boring! The female stars parade along the red carpet, trying to outdo each other in skimpy and revealing clothing. Being talked about is all important, it would appear that their fragile egos would not tolerate the thought of being overlooked!
Dripping with insincerity the favoured few go up to accept their awards. With false modesty they feign surprise at having won, in spite of the fact they are the bookie’s favourite! Predictably they proceed to thank everyone they can think of for their success, which would no doubt include a little green man from Mars if they had thought of it!
Whimsically I imagine a very different stage with no tawdry glitz or superficial glamour. An elderly lady stands there with applause ringing in her ears. She has unselfishly devoted her life to the service of others. Her face shines with reflected light from the presenter of her award. She is overwhelmed with a feeling of love, joy and peace as her hand is grasped and she is welcomed into the celestial kingdom.
There will be some people who fully expect to take the highest honours at that final, and greatest, of all award ceremonies. They style themselves as Christians, but do not have the love of Christ in their hearts. I believe their condemnation of others, they deem less worthy than they, will dramatically backfire as the door of Heaven is firmly shut in their faces!
