Tragic Death

I was deeply shocked and saddened this morning, when on opening a Christmas card from a person we only hear from once a year, a note dropped out telling us of the death of her son, James. The young man felt the weight of life was too burdensome and he committed suicide. As a little boy, James used to play with our younger daughters who were a similar age.

I do not know the details of his death, or why he found life too much to cope with. My thoughts and prayers are with his mother and older half brother. The death of a younger person is always sad, but I think that when that death is by suicide it is even more distressing and cruel. I hope, in time, they can find it comforting that James is no longer hurting and is at peace.

Death By Their Own Hand

So tragic,

So sad,

So unnecessary,

So wasteful of potential,

Bemused we shake our heads

In despair and disbelief,

No healing balm was proffered

To ease the agony of the unquiet mind,

The final solution wrought of hopelessness,

Death by their own hand.
