The Sermon of The Revd Charles S. Mims
Jesus Would Be Sinless
1 John 3:4-5
The Holy Bible, King James Version
1 John 3:4-6
Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the
transgression of the law.
And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.
Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him,
neither know him.
Our Society is Sinful
We have all fallen short of the Glory of God (Rom. 3:23)
We cannot be saved by the law, in fact the law was never intended to sanctify or
to save. It is through the law that we can recognize our sinful state. This
verse reminds us that all of us are in the same boat, we have all sinned.
John described this sin as lawlessness.
We desire to be the captain of our own fates. We want to run our own lives
this often comes in conflict with what God has in store for us.
In order to truly do what Jesus did, we must refrain from this lawlessness.
We must obey the law. God’s law. We must take sin seriously. God does.
What did Jesus do? What would he have us to do?
Jesus was Sinless
He is the solution to the sin problem. He lived a sinless life.
a. He came first to deal with sin.
He came to be a sacrifice for sin.
He came to deliver us from sin.
He came to set us free from the power of sin.
Jesus expects us to live a sinless life as well.
a. He is there for when we fall, but that does not give us a license to
sin.
b. He expects us to follow his example.
c. He expects us to be a sinless example to others.
